Less risk, better quality & proven income increase

Our approach is developed for potato farmers of all sizes and is aimed at more profit through the use of healthy, high-yielding seed potatoes and applying good agricultural practices.

Over the past years, we have seen Kenyan potato farmers improve their average yield and income β€” from barely breaking even to running a highly profitable business. These farmers worked together in groups, applied intensive agricultural management, and invested in:

  • High-quality KEPHIS-certified seed potatoes
  • Expert crop nutrition and rotation guidance
  • Hands-on farmer training and support

Nyandarua Potatoes not only supplies premium seed potatoes, but also provides knowledge transfer and practical training. We work together with farmers and partners to scale up a sustainable potato value chain in Kenya.

Thousands of Kenyan farmers are making progress

Small-scale farmers who organized into groups and invested in quality inputs have entered premium markets across Kenya. A few reasons why premium markets prefer Nyandarua varieties:

  • Longer storability and shelf life
  • Better processing characteristics for chips & crisps
  • Superior taste and higher quality tubers
  • All-year-round stable supply

There are no guarantees in farming β€” climate and labour always play a role β€” but we see significant income boosts achieved by many of our farmers, all across Kenya throughout the year.

KEPHIS Certified Seed Potatoes

Although there are no guarantees in agriculture, the best guarantee for a good harvest is high-quality, healthy seed potatoes and expert advice. Experience has shown that our potato varieties increase the net result for Kenyan smallholder farmers.

For Kenya, we have 5 major varieties that match market demands and are suitable for all types of farmers, their specific climate zones, altitudes and conditions. All seed potatoes from Nyandarua Potatoes are certified by:

  • High yield per acre
